In the future, Aalborg University (AAU) will be even better able to produce graduates with sought-after IT skills where programmes in Cyber and Computer Engineering, Software, and Data Science & Machine Learning are now getting even more students.

In particular, Cyber and Computer Engineering in Copenhagen and Computer Engineering in Aalborg are getting a boost with student increases of 38.1 percent and 52.9 percent, respectively. This is very good news for the business community and Danish infrastructure.

"We have seen how problems with IT systems can have major consequences for society. Most recently, air traffic was completely paralyzed. So, we are extremely pleased to educate even more ambitious people for critical positions that Danish and international companies are hungry to fill, and with an AAU education, they are well equipped when they then specialize with a Master's degree in, for example, Cyber Security," says Anne Marie Kanstrup, Pro-rector, Aalborg University.

The business community is hungry for a wide range of IT-competent graduates

Digital Denmark needs as wide a range of IT engineers as possible, so it is also positive that AAU can offer engineering study places to more women this year where Software in Copenhagen and the Bachelor of Engineering in Design and Application of Artificial Intelligence are among the high performers, with increases in the admission of women of 14.5 percent and 11.5 percent, respectively, compared to last year's intake.

"It is really positive that we have succeeded in getting more women in degree programmes that deal with artificial intelligence, security and IT in general. We have been working on this for many years, and we will continue to do so," says Anne Marie Kanstrup.

Across all engineering programmes, the number of places offered to women has increased by 8 percent.

Stable distribution with classic high performers

This year, Aalborg University can offer study places to 3,733 applicants, and 1,755 of these are in the STEM subjects.

This year's high performers in terms of applications are the well-known Medicine, Psychology and Law programmes with 1,982, 1,596 and 1,025 applications, respectively, and this year's GPAs are 9.9, 9.9 and 8.5, respectively.

Nationwide, 85,152 people applied for higher education – an increase of 1.3% compared to last year. This year, 61,351 applicants were offered a study place on 26 July. In 2023, 61,382 were offered a study place, which means that 31 fewer were offered a study place in 2024 (0.05%). Of the 61,351 applicants, 30,569 were offered admission to one of the country's 8 universities.
