‘Magtudredningen’ is a version 2.0 because it is an update of a research project initiated by the Danish Parliament in the 1990s. At that time, politicians wanted independent researchers to investigate the state of democracy in Denmark at the dawn of the new millennium. This year marks 20 years since the project was completed.

In 2022, the Danish Parliament therefore decided to launch a new investigation: ‘Magtudredningen 2.0’ that will provide a status on Danish democracy today. This is happening at a time when, for the first time in the history of ‘magtudredninger’, it seems that democratic institutions also in Western democracies are under pressure if not in decline.

This is according to Professor Michael Baggesen Klitgaard, Head of the Department of Politics and Society.

He will serve as moderator for the event when the research management of Magtudredningen 2.0 visit CREATE in Aalborg to present their work. In attendance will be Anne Skorkjær Binderkrantz, Professor, Department of Political Science, Aarhus University and Michael Bang Petersen, Head of ‘Magtudredningen 2.0’ and Professor at the Department of Political Science, Aarhus University.

- An ambition of ‘Magtudredningen’ is to involve social science environments broadly, so that you get as wide-ranging a status as possible. They are coming not only to present the project, but also to discuss it Michael Baggesen Klitgaard says.

He adds that the event is an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the study, and that all researchers across the faculties are welcome to participate. If you are interested in contributing to the project, you can also gain knowledge on how to make yourself relevant in the discussion.

The event will be in English.
