The Ministry of Higher Education and Science designated the national committee on the reform of the Master’s programmes that will design the Master’s programme landscape of the future as an independent administrative authority. After preliminary meetings on formalities, the national committee is now ready to begin its work on designing the Master's programmes of the future. The Rector and Pro-rector at Aalborg University (AAU) is part of the committee and expect that the parties will work more specifically on restructuring the Master's programmes at the upcoming meetings before Christmas.

The committee is bound by confidentiality

On AAU Update, the Rector and Pro-rector have previously stated that they will regularly report on the committee's work. However, the Ministry of Higher Education and Science made the national committee an independent administrative authority. This means that the committee's work is confidential and exempt from public access. The argument is that representatives from the various universities must be able to work on the reform in a safe forum.

- We want to be as open about the work as we can because we know that it is very significant to many people. But because the committee is an independent administrative authority, this is very generally what we can share.

He is part of the national committee while Pro-rector Anne Marie Kanstrup and University Director Søren Lind Christiansen are in the preparatory working group for the national committee that contributes to qualifying the specific decision proposals for the national committee meetings.

- We expect that the national committee will soon set up working groups to discuss various aspects of the Master’s reform. We of course will include the recommendations from the substantial internal work that has already been done at AAU, says Pro-rector Anne Marie Kanstrup. She heads AAU's internal task force that is responsible for preparing Rector and Pro-rector for the meetings of the preparatory working group and the national committee.

The Rector's Office has asked the academic environments at AAU to submit their recommendations no later than 13 October as to which AAU Master's degree programmes can be restructured.

- This has not been an easy task, but everyone has worked constructively, and we will take the faculties' recommendations into account in the further work of the national committee, says the pro-rector.

Contribute your input and ideas

The Rector’s Office invites AAU staff members to participate in AAU's workshop on the business-oriented Master's programmes of the future that will be held in Aalborg, Copenhagen and Esbjerg in November. The input and ideas from staff will serve as the basis for the rector’s recommendations to the national committee.
